Coffee itself has almost no calories. Milk, syrups, cream and size are what turn a coffee into a small meal.
What changes the calories
- Size: going from a small to a large can roughly double the milk.
- Milk: whole milk has about twice the calories of skimmed; oat and coconut drinks vary by brand.
- Syrups: each pump typically adds around 20–25 kcal of sugar.
- Whipped cream and toppings: can add 100 kcal or more.
- Frappés and seasonal specials: often 300–500 kcal, sometimes more.
Lighter orders
- Americano or filter coffee with a splash of milk.
- A small flat white or cappuccino.
- Skimmed or semi-skimmed milk.
- Sugar-free syrups if you want flavour.
- Skip the cream and save seasonal drinks for occasional treats.

Most UK coffee chains publish nutrition information online and in their apps. If you have a daily large latte, switching to a small saves over 1,000 kcal a week.
